It’s been almost 20 years since Hilary Devey set up the Pall-Ex Network. It’s a well told story, one which is full of struggle, obstacles and challenges but ultimately and most importantly…success. At Linkline Express Services Ltd, we also feel a sense of success too, as a founding member of the Pall-Ex network. Back then the industry looked completely different, technology wasn’t a crucial factor, communication was by radio and the very concept of a network of diverse hauliers collaborating for a common benefit, was radical and unheard of. Linkline’s Managing Director – Gerard Culbertson recalls the day he joined Pall-Ex “Before Pall-Ex, and even when we joined – we were only a small transport company with a handful of vans and working from a small premises. I was approached by Hilary Devey who was passionately trying to create her concept, a network of pallet delivery operators. She was an impressive lady, with a clear and unwavering vision. Through much deliberation and excitement too, I was convinced and I signed up. Soon after we were collecting & delivering pallets into the Birmingham area, the rest is history” To date, Linkline is still a proud member of the Pall-Ex network, as well as an established logistics provider of non Pall-Ex services such as haulage, warehousing and pick & pack services. We congratulate Pall-Ex on their success, and look in anticipation to the next 20 years….

Linkline specialises in palletised distribution, which makes up 70% of the entire operation. However, in recent months Linkline’s haulage operation has increased beyond initial forecasts, with a combination of new and existing customers switching to Linkline for direct loads. Steve Fleetwood (Transport Manager) gives an insight into the growth “When you have a dedicated team of transport professionals, coupled with a conscientious customer service team, our customers really see and feel a sense of ownership and professionalism. We’ve invested in our fleet and streamlined our internal processes to ensure we’re running our vehicles efficiently and cost effectively, enabling us to be more competitive in an extremely saturated market” Offering direct services on both a full and part load basis, Linkline aims to gain more of the market over the remainder of 2016 and beyond. As part of a new and dynamic approach to logistics, Linkline has introduced Samsung smartphones to manage and log deliveries made by its team of drivers. By implementing ‘TraceNow’ technology via a smartphone, Linkline has vastly reduced the administrative process. The benefit is shared with its customers who can now see their deliveries signed for on a real time basis and gain a proof of delivery via its online portal within minutes. The software allows for a sign on glass confirmation and signature from the recipient, and also allows for the user to capture images of the freight and upload it if required. Through easily accessible statistics and data, the software enables Linkline to continually improve our efficiencies. Linkline views this development as another step towards offering the best distribution service possible for its customers, and future customers alike.
